LGUMC Gets a Facelift

See photos of our progress.

In 2003, the members of Liberty Grove envisioned an improved Liberty Grove UMC, one that would invite and encourage folks of all ages and sizes to worship in Burtonsville.

We dreamed of an elevator to allow the very young, the injured, and the elderly to access all 3 floors of our building. We dreamed of a welcome center where visitors would know which door to enter, and once inside, would know how to get around.

We dreamed of an addition to house a new family life/youth center, where the youth of our community could congregate for fellowship and fun and youth group activities.

We dreamed of an updated Fellowship Hall, so integral to our community of life. This included new classrooms, a new boiler (yea!, heat!) and general (and required) improvements to the infrastructure.

Come and be a part of this exciting time in our church’s life. Our doors and our hearts are STILL open!

Russian Mission Trip

Ann & Tom Dudley, along with Joan Taylor will be leaving for a 2 week Russian Mission Trip from August 1 and returning August 15You can follow along on their trip by going to blagodot.blogspot.com

Ann writes, "Having grown up during the cold war, we all remember our feelings of fear when we thought of the Russians and the threat of Communism as we were growing up.  On the other side of the world, those Russians our age  grew to be atheists.  Their parents had the opportunity to choose their religion and some managed to pass that on to their grandchildren.

Our trip is not humanitarian like the mission trips to Honduras and Haiti .  We are proud to have had the opportunity to participate in some of those trips and most of the 16 people going to Russia have also participated in multiple humanitarian trips.

This trip however, is considered church and relationship building. Yes, we expect to do some labor at Camp Voronezh , but we have been told the primary purpose of this trip is to show our support and encouragement for those spreading the gospel in Russia .

The Great Commission stated that we should go to all the nations spreading the gospel and that is where we place our focus.

We will visit with a small congregation in Orel , Russia with Pastor Lev who has a rather young congregation.  We travel with members from 2 other churches, Bel Air and Trinity in Prince Frederick and most of our 16 are young people.  We then go to Camp Voronezh which is reaching out to orphans, delinquents, abused women and children of alcoholic homes and also providing a place for new Christians to gather.  We also will visit with Resurrection church and Pastor Irena.  This church has been responsible for helping establish many other local churches as they spread the word."
