The Liberty Bell

July/August 2009
loan will be monthly through monies from the
annual budget. What had been previously dis-
cussed was a loan with 30 year amortization,
with an expected pay back in seven years or
less.
3. How will we be able to enter the various
parts of the church during construction?
There will be no access to Fellowship Hall
during construction. There will be no access to
the church via the bell tower entry. The church
entry points on the Liberty Grove Road side
(to the sanctuary) and at the rear (parsonage)
side (to the education wing) will remain dur-
ing construction. The church entry point on
the Old Columbia Pike (end) side (to the edu-
cation wing) will still have the steps for ac-
cess; ramp access will be in place to permit
entry to the first floor of the education wing
from outside the design of this temporary
structure is not complete.
There are five interior stairways in the
church facility. The two stairs from Fellow-
ship Hall to each side of the Sanctuarys chan-
cel area and the main bell tower stairs will not
be available during most of the construction
period. The two stairs in the education wing
(one at the end (Old Columbia Pike side)), and
one at the middle (Parsonage side) will be
fully operational during construction. At the
end of each work week, Oak will have
(temporary) access in place to accommodate
congregant traffic from the second floor of the
education wing to the Sanctuary. Signs direct-
ing people to proper entrances and to available
spaces within the church will be posted.
4. What portions of the church will not be
open to use during construction?
Portions of the church that will not be
open to use during construction include: all of
Fellowship Hall, including the stage and stor-
age areas behind the stage; the two stair wells
on either side of the stage and Chancel Area;
the kitchen; the boiler room; the bell tower
(except for temporary access from the 2nd
floor of the education wing to the sanctuary
during weekends) including the janitorial stor-
age area; and the education wings first floor
corridor from the Chapels doorway to the bell
tower.
5. Will we be able to have the Turkey Supper
this Year?
No. It is highly unlikely that Fellowship
Hall will be available for the Turkey Supper
this year.
6. How long will it take before we can use
Fellowship Hall again?
Based on the preliminary schedule, we can
anticipate use of Fellowship Hall beginning in
February 2010.
7. How will the groups that regularly use the
Fellowship Hall be affected? (Scouts, Karate,
Moms Exercise group, MYF, etc.)
Fellowship Hall will not be available to
these groups for at least seven (7) months after
the start of construction. They will need to de-
termine their best course of action to accom-
modate their ongoing activities during Fellow-
ship Halls downtime. Oak should be able to
forecast in November, with a reasonable de-
gree of accuracy, when Fellowship hall will be
available to resume normal activities. Those
groups with storage in the areas behind the
stage and under the stairs on both sides of the
stage need to find a place for their stored items
by 29 June 2009.
