We are studying the Old Testament book of 2 Samuel. This great book continues the story of early Israel, including the favorite stories of Kings David and Solomon, and how God worked in their lives through their ups and downs. As usual, the stories have tremendous application for the church today. Join us as we read, discuss, and listen for God’s Word, and seek how to live as Christians in a secular world. Any day is a good day to enter into the fellowship of believers! Won’t you join us today?

We meet in room 109 and begin and end each session with song and prayer.

Class Description

The Walking in Faith class is an adult, co-ed, multi-generational class of learners interested in studying more about the Word of God. As we read and discuss the Bible, we strive to understand more and more about God’s plan for us through his Son, Jesus Christ, and how we can incorporate the Word into our own lives. There are usually between 6 and 12 of us on any given day, and we range in age from mid 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, to beyond. Sometimes visiting relatives and friends join us as well, and everyone is welcome. The class meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30 – 10:30 in room 109 throughout the school year, taking the summer off when the church Sunday schedule changes.

Class Structure

The class structure consists of 3 components: music, prayer, and study. Each week, we sing
from the United Methodist Hymnal and/or contemporary songbooks, ensuring a variety of old, beloved, new, and inspirational music. We begin and end each class session with prayer, and maintain a prayer list amongst ourselves. We value the opinions and life-stories of each class member, and respect each other’s privacy as we share our life’s experiences. What is said in the room stays in the room.

Class Study

The class study is discussion-oriented. We do not follow a handbook or study guide, although sometimes there are handouts. Class members are encouraged to read ahead for the following lesson, and allow God to open our hearts and minds to the message of the text. On Sunday morning, after reading the morning’s scripture, we discuss what’s been read and apply it to our own lives. The discussion is open-ended. All opinions are welcome, and members feel free to express their thoughts in a non-judgmental environment. Some members prefer instead to ‘take it all in’, and their quiet participation is welcome as well. We do not necessarily read the books in any order. We decide as a class what to study, and begin there. As there is no ‘right’ way to study the Bible, in order or style, we have chosen instead to study what various class members have expressed an interest in. We tend to read the books at a pace determined by the discussion generated. There’s no time limit on discussion topics. Come, now is the time to worship!
